Lisa Liao is a fifth-generation inheritor of the Mei’an Style of guqin. With deep reverence for tradition, she teaches guqin not for financial gain, but as a heartfelt commitment to preserving and passing on Chinese classical culture overseas. She works with a small group of students—often young children growing up abroad—allowing each to experience, through the study of Guqin, the traditional Chinese appreciation for inner cultivation, beauty of character, and emotional resonance.

Lisa views the guqin as far more than a musical instrument. It is a profound vessel of philosophy, aesthetics, cultivated by ancient Chinese scholars. She began her studies in 2004 under Master Wu Ziying, a direct heir to the great Guqin masters of the 20th century, inheriting both the stylistic elegance and inner spirit of the Mei’an tradition.

With a formal background in fine arts and a professional career in internationally acclaimed animation and video game productions, Lisa brings a refined artistic vision to her teaching. Her work bridges classical and contemporary sensibilities, offering students a rare and meaningful connection to the timeless beauty of the Guqin.
